1. You must make police report within 24 hours after an accident occurs.
2. Make your police report at Traffic Police Station only, you are advised to contact the Traffic Police Station first and ensure it has same jurisdiction as the location of accident. Otherwise, your precious time will be wasted.
3. If a car is badly damaged, it must be towed to police station and make a police report. Normally, tow truck drivers can lead you to the right police station, since they are well-experienced in their business and familiar with the relevant procedures.
4. At traffic police station, get your queue number and fill up a form given by police officer.
5. When your queue number is called, you are required to show your MyKad and driving license to police officer.
6. Explain the incident with detailed manner and show relevant evidences that you have gathered at the location of accident, i.e photos you have taken, statements of witness you have recorded.
7. After police officer finish recording your statements and drafting your report, you should read and confirm the accuracy of the contents. You can request corrections if you feel it is necessary to do so.
8. After your police report is done, you will be asked to meet up with an investigation officer.
9. The investigation officer will read your report and request you to draw a sketch of the accident scene, and normally he/she would ask some questions on accident as well.
10. If you are found guilty, you might be required to pay a traffic summon up to RM300. If you are not the party-at-fault, the summon will be issued to another party involving the same accident. Worst-case-scenario, the investigation officer cannot decide who is guilty, then your case must be escalated to court, of course, this will take longer time to settle your case in comparison.
11. After investigation officer completes the interrogation, you could leave police station. Few days later, you might need to pay cash at police station’s counter for getting a copy of the police report. The police report is required by insurance / takaful company, whenever you submit a motor accident claim.

3. Jika kereta mengalami kerosakan yang teruk, ia mesti ditunda ke balai polis dan membuat laporan polis. Biasanya, pemandu trak boleh membawa anda ke balai polis yang betul, kerana mereka sudah berpengalaman dengan urusan perniagaan dan biasa dengan prosedur-prosedur yang berkaitan.
